David Beckham in Race for Cup Final Fitness for L.A Galaxy

Major League Soccer star David Beckham has admitted that he faces a race to be fit in time for the L.A. Galaxy’s Cup final against Real Salt Lake at the Qwest Field arena.
The 34-year-old has been forced to wear a protective boot to avoid further inflammation of the bruised right ankle that he sustained during last weekend’s 2-0 play-off victory over Houston Dynamos, meaning he has been unable to train with the Galaxy save for a gentle run in L.A. yesterday.
However, despite his lack of preparation ahead of the American championship game, Beckham insists he is absolutely confident of playing in Saturday’s final as he seeks to join an elite group of players who have all captured league titles in three countries, having already secured top honours in England and Spain.
Before flying north to Seattle ahead of the game, Beckham confirmed to reporters: “I haven’t trained since the game the other day, so it’s been a bit of a worry. I had bad bone bruising, but I have done a little running now which is important. It was the first time [since the injury] I’d actually been able to wear trainers.”
The player’s personal spokesman, Simon Oliveira, also reinforced Beckham’s claims that he will play in tomorrow’s final, assuring fans: “David is determined to play and he’ll take pain-killers if necessary.”
