Time is of the Essence
The night of the 2007 Gambling Online Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards party coincided with the heaviest downpour of the year so far. Granted, it was only late January, but the skies opened up with a wintery vengeance. Luckily, Floridita on Wardour Street in Soho provided just the right atmosphere to get people in the right frame of mind, forgetting about the weather outside, and the inclement state of the online gaming industry.
Yes, the UIGEA headache is still pounding, but we, as well as the big companies who attended, see it as more of a challenge rather than an apocalyptic beast to run away from. Times might be tough, but there are always avenues to explore to keep the engines running. And a testament to the resilience of the online gaming industry came, once again, in the form of tens of thousands of votes from readers that poured in to decide who buckled down the most, rather than just plain buckled.

You’ll see from the results that Bodog, William Hill and Betfair certainly did their homework. And to make it official, top dogs from those three companies and 47 others got into the Cuban spirit with drinks flowing and a live band getting the massive dance floor moving. Some moves were more appealing to watch than others, as you’d expect. After all, hundreds of club-frenzied online gaming people are rarely going to cut up a hard-wood floor with any kind of grace or style.
Speaking of grace, though, it was Sky Poker’s very own Kara Scott who was on hand to present the awards to all the winners. She had quite a busy schedule up until the doors opened and we weren’t sure if things would come together. But, true to form, she came through, and not a minute too soon. Good timing, indeed.
