What has been the highlight of 2007 for the company and why?
2007 has been such a great year for PKR that it’s hard to choose. We’ve grown at an enormous rate, from 100,000 players in January to 1.3 million at the end of December. If I had to pick a highlight, I would say it was hitting the 1 million customer mark in September. That is such a significant number, and for us, a new poker site, to do it in just over a year was truly thrilling.
What has been the worst moment of 2007 for the company and why?
Our worst moment was ironically a good moment for us as well. On May 22, we introduced Version 1.2, our first major site upgrade. It proved so popular that with thousands of people trying to upgrade at once, it crashed the site!
What has been the biggest tournament of the year on your site?
In terms of cash prizes, we have a monthly $50,000 which has always exceeded the guarantee. This will be moving to a $75,000 guaranteed in February 2008. Again, this is pretty exciting as we started the year with a $7,500 guarantee being our biggest tournament.
What does PKR offer its poker players in terms of freerolls—and how does this compare with the leading competition?
We offer several daily freerolls for new players to try out the software, and several Premium Freerolls, which offer bigger prize pools for the cost of only small amount of PKR points. The Premium Freeroll range includes a weekly $1,000 and a monthly $2,500. We also host several monthly freeroll promotions, such as the Club PKR $1,000 and $2,500 loyalty freerolls, and several tournament ranking freerolls where the top 500 multi-table and sit-n-go players compete for a share of $6,000 in prize funds.
How many staff does the company employ and where?
We have 71 staff members, located in our London office.
What do you have planned for 2008? What sort of year is it going to be?
With 2008, we’re looking to make it even better. We are looking to grow and expand our offering, and there are some very innovative new ideas we’ve come up with to make PKR an even better playing experience for our customers. Keep your eyes open for Poker 2.0!
