Never a Dull Moment
The online gaming industry collectively licked its wounds as 2006 came to a close, but regardless of UIGEA spoiling the party, Gambling Online Magazine, as well as its most loyal industry allies, forged ahead with a bash to celebrate the silver linings of 2006 at the annual Readers’ Choice Awards party. Granted, those linings were pretty slim, but you wouldn’t have known it with the line at the Albannach snaking around outside. And you don’t want to wait too long outside in London on an arctic January evening.
Once inside, the wall of scotch, representing every possible hue of amber, beckoned those who were successful in clinching an award—or awards in some cases—and those determined to do better. From the upstairs vantage point, GOM’s VIP area toasted the people who made another Awards evening such a success. From all over the globe, they revelled in the moment before the hard work started up again.

One special guest was GOM cover girl Aylar. Trust me, she has earned that coveted one-name title as this Norwegian beauty kept everyone—even the ladies—smiling. She’s a rather petite package but there’s plenty of everything in all the right places. But I digress.
While we were all there to enjoy the evening, it was a time to reflect on the relationship of company, media and reader that has made the Awards evening such a continued success—even when the chips are down. But bear in mind, even though laws may change and opinions get set in stone, the general public that likes to go gaming in any of its forms are going to continue to do so, no matter what adversity comes their way. And that in itself is something to raise a glass to. And based on that motivation, we’ll see you again next year. I guarantee it.
